Community feedback

co-valley is a shared space that evolves and grows as the needs of our community evolve and grow. â€‹Instead of a one-way communication of our vision for co-valley, or a list of "rules" for sharing the space, we asked our co-workers to share their feedback and help establish some community guidelines.

During two lunch engagement sessions in December 2024 and January 2025, twenty-one co-workers generously spent their time brainstorming and co-creating the following feedback and community guidelines.

With special thanks to: Aidan, Alex D., Andy, Brad, Ben, Caroline, Cecilia, Corinne, Elli, Emily, Francis, John, Justin, Kait, Kathleen, Katrin, Lara, Oliver, Perrin, Silvan, Steve, and everyone else who was there in spirit and/or who took part in the feedback survey.

What we heard + what we're doing about it

2015-2017

Collaboration + learning

We heard a request for more opportunities to collaborate and learn from each other as well as experts in the community. To implement this, we:

  • Are hosting a monthly "Lunch & Learns." If you'd like to share your knowledge or know of someone you'd like us to invite, drop us a line!

  • Added a "what I'm working on" board in the kitchen for co-workers to share. It doesn't have to be work!

2011-2014

Location, location, location

Co-workers are happy with the central location downtown Courtenay and would like more bike storage. We're working on it! Based on the other feedback, we have added a new standing chat booth, a chill-out room, free snacks, and a fancy new coffee maker. Ask and you shall (most likely) receive!

Community guidelines

Ensuring we share the space respectfully.

Keep it tidy

The campsite rule applies! I.e.: please leave all shared spaces as tidy as (or tidier than) you found them. This applies especially to the board room. If something needs urgent attention, please let us know.

Read the room

"Read the room" when it comes to chatter and long conversations in the open space front room. If everyone around you has headphones on, consider taking your conversation to the kitchen or outside.

Can be bumped

If your meeting room booking is just a casual catch-up with a colleague, consider adding a note to your booking like "can be bumped" so co-workers can ask you to shift it if something urgent comes up.
